Tom Savano – London Cocktail Week 2020
*I received cocktail samples for the purposes of this review
Cocktails delivered straight to your door – this sounds perfect! As we return to restricted guidelines during the Covid pandemic, it is pleasing to know that bar quality cocktails from services such as Tom Savano are available instantly.
Tom Savano prides itself in providing premium cocktails and these cocktails are pre-blended and delivered in a bottle without requiring a cocktail shaker. The Tom Savano cocktails are therefore ideal for those at home cocktail nights and as those aperitifs before that outdoor or indoor dinner party. Simply chill the bottle, pour and serve with ice and transport yourself to your favourite bar.
The concept for Tom Savano’s cocktails was based on a love of travel. James Kerslake as the founder of Tom Savano wished to capture the very essence of travelling and adventure within each of the cocktails. The result is impressive with 5 cocktail flavours presently available being English Garden Lychee Martini, Caribbean Dawn Mai Tai, Devon Coastal Negroni, Kentucky Winter Old Fashioned and Single Estate Reposed Margarita.
The emphasis at Tom Savano is to use small batch, founder run craft distilleries and indeed the brand features within the Food and Drink Online Festival with 20% off the first order with subscription to the newsletter. All of the cocktails have been developed by hand which helps to recreate that cocktail bar sensation.
Indeed, Tom Savano’s cocktails have been recognised for their quality with a number of awards from being the number one Best Pick by the Evening Standard to receiving gold and silver from The Spirits Business in 2019 in The Speciality Spirits Masters. Tom Savano cocktails has also been the winner of a Great Taste Award in 2020.
If you are still not convinced by now to add Tom Savano cocktails to your shopping list there are also some festive hampers available. The hampers combine savoury crackers, chocolate, gin or the cocktails with several different types available including a vegan/ gluten free hamper. So, there will be at least one hamper to suit most households with the profits going to charity!
Additionally, there is also a membership club for fellow cocktail lovers. Subscribing to Tom’s Club means receiving invitations to special events, discounts on orders and also the opportunity to taste new cocktails first. The club certainly sounds intriguing!
I was fortunate to sample the Caribbean Dawn Mai Tai at the time of writing this review and still have the Lychee Martini chilling in the fridge. The cocktail bottles are packaged exquisitely and instantly convey that air of sophistication but also that traveller’s spirit. Each bottle is intended to serve two and has a rubber cork just in case you wish to preserve some of the cocktail mix for another day!
The Mai Tai is very well blended and as a lover of rum punches, I was certainly impressed! The rum can be tasted perfectly and the blend is not sugary with the almond syrup detected as an underlying taste. With no less than four craft rums from Panama, Martinique and Mauritius in the blend, this is certainly not for the faint-hearted at 19.5%. However, this is testament to the high level of quality cocktail making available from Tom Savano.
After such a delicious blend from the Mai Tai, I will certainly look forward to sampling the Lychee Martini as well. Given that London Cocktail Week has been extended to cover the entire month of October, there is certainly many chances to take advantage of these at home cocktail ranges whilst watching films and over Halloween!
